Peter Pootletron and the Hiccuping Headache

Peter Pootletron and The Hiccuping Headache, by Fiona McMahon, was published in May 2024. This is Fiona’s debut novel, and it made it into the top 10 of the Amazon children’s chapter book best seller list! 

The brief was to illustrate a full-colour front cover, as well as a selection of small character pictures to go at the start of a number for each of the chapters.

Once again, I worked alongside the wonderful editor Claire Wingfield on this book. I was given short, descriptive extracts from the book to get a feel for the characters’ looks and personalities, along with some (human) character reference photos from Fiona. The cover design brief was to create a ‘Where’s Wally?’ effect of the characters in a bustling scene of Parliament Square.
